Coffee with the Mayor- A Good Morning Brew for Lathrop
By: Bobbie Singh-Allen
The first “Coffee with the Mayor” was a huge
success. Over 40 residents and business leaders
attended the hour-long chat at Eureka Coffee.
Mayor Kristy Sayles took questions from
concerned citizens on issues facing Lathrop.
Questions ranged from graffiti tagging at Parks
to business at City Hall.
The event was organized by Vision’s for a Better
Lathrop that includes: Mary Kennedy-Bracken
(Major Account Representative for BOSS), Sharon Ferrer (Land Investment Consultant, Velur
Enterprises, Inc), Cynthia Summers (Realtor for Connect), Jud McDonald (Retirement Income
Specialist) and Frank Cavaco (Publisher of The Lathrop RUSH). It will continue as a monthly
gathering where constituents can bring their concerns directly to the Mayor. “These coffees
are a way for me to connect better with Lathrop,” said Mayor Kristy Sayles. “I think people
are more likely to bring up any issues in a casual setting over coffee than at City Hall,” she
said.
The attendees included some of Lathrop’s top leaders including City Manager Yvonne Quirring
and Planning Commissioners Bennie Gatto and Jose Perez. At the close of the meeting, Mayor
Sayles remained to answer additional questions one-on-one.
The next coffee is set for April 16th from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at Eureka Coffee. Lathrop residents
are encouraged to attend.
