Our Lady of Guadalupe’s Seafood Success Story!

By: Jacqui Lloyd

Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church in Lathrop hosted another very
successful and extremely popular annual
crab feed. This year at the MRPS Hall in
Manteca, every seat was occupied by the
500 anxious guests who brought their
$40.00 tickets along with incredible cravings
for crab. Most everyone agrees that the
delicious crab served at each crab feed
hosted by Our Lady of Guadalupe Church is
rated #1. Father Dean admits that the
church spends a little extra money for
better quality crabmeat to satisfy
supporters and keep them coming back for more. 40 choir members from East Union High
School were among the many volunteer servers. They moved with precision and quickness as they composed action to the lead singers, singing “Bring More Crab”. Residents of Lathrop represented the largest group of supporters, however many residing in Tracy, Stockton, and Modesto also showed up in large numbers. The Mike Torres Band was the main attraction following dinner and 100 additional tickets were sold for $10.00 each to fans who exclusively came to see their performance and dance the night away. The raffle portion of the evening was chaired by Jose Espinoza. He announced that Bonnie Guzman had won the 1st prize cash award of $500.00 and the 2nd cash prize of $200.00 was won by Dr. Jon Serafin. Dr. Serafin who is Lathrop’s only Chiropractor, returned his prize money back to the church. There were many prize donations from local businesses and Father Dean wanted to recognize and thank each one on behalf of the Guadalupe parish. They are as follows: 123 Fitness Club, Jack in the Box in Lathrop, Boomers in Modesto, Wal-Mart, Curves in Lathrop, Denny’s in Lathrop, Go Bananas in Lathrop, Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Lathrop, In-shape Health Club, In and Out Burger, Baskin Robbins in Lathrop, Country Kitchen, Chitivas Bar & Grill, Manteca Bowl, French Camp Golf, ABC Transmission, Brannon Tires, Stockton Thunder Hockey and Stockton Lightning Indoor Football. Our Lady of Guadalupe Church’s crab feed fundraiser is a guaranteed good time with money well spent to make a difference in the Lathrop Community. At this event in particular it is easy to feel the powerful connection made by the congregation of citizens who support its worthy cause. A function which holds the ability to facilitate society in experiencing unity and a sense of belonging through a common bond is priceless!
