Lathrop School Sprung Into a Carnival

By: Justin Swofford

It was nothing but all-out family fun at Lathrop Elementary School's annual Spring Carnival.
Held at the school's newly built all-purpose gymnasium.

This year's carnival was somewhat special - it marked the first time the festivities were moved
from Lathrop Annex to the Main Site.

Lending its support to the occasion was the Lathrop Police Station, which demonstrated its
new mobile emergency vehicle to guests. Inside the gym, younger children enjoyed
'play-to-pay' games such as ring tossing and target practice, while others tried their hands at
tug-of-war and basketball. Many teachers from Lathrop Elementary, as well as Principal David
Silveira, came down to show their school pride.

Local radio station KWIN, Stockton's "#1 Hit Music Station," made a special guest appearance
to the delight of everyone. The stations own DJs even lent a hand by announcing the
carnival's raffle prizewinners.

But the biggest hit of the entire event was the classic dunk tank, which drenched countless
students at the hands of skilled throwers and other taunting guests.

And the show was stopped when Principal Silveira himself made his way into the dunk tank,
resulting in laughs and applause alike from teachers and students. In just minutes, Mr. Silveira
was drenched, yet still laughing, proving that you're never too old to have fun or you are as
old as you feel.

Martha Salcedo, a junior high teacher at Lathrop, organized this fantastic event. She wishes
to thank the following people for their help and support:

Genevieve Beltran
Laura Steiner
Norma Molina
Ann Waller
Antonine Gratonik
Chris Bennett
Jeannie Swanson
Andrea Torres
Caroline Murlry
Janie Bridgewater
David Silveira
Mrs. Prado
Ms. Jerrald
Amank King
Bill Rodcher
Steve Guitierrez and his friends from Stockton

Money raised from this event, amounting to an impressive $1,500 will help to fund the
Lathrop's upcoming 8th grade graduation.
